SIL 3-rated QUINT POWER

SIL 3-rated QUINT power supply and solutions for functional safety applications.
SIL 3-rated QUINT POWER

The QUINT 20A+ power supply is the first DIN rail mounted power supply certified for use in a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 rated system. This single device SIL 3 rated power solution is designed with an integrated decoupling MOSFET which eliminates the need for an external decoupling diode. The internal overvoltage protection (OVP) circuitry of the QUINT 20+ features a secure shut off upon activation limiting the risk of damage to the power supply and the field devices connected to the DC bus. The QUINT 20+ is conformally coated and is certified with ATEX, IEC 61508, IEC 61511 approvals. This power supply is also approved for us in hazardous applications requiring Class I Division 2.

What is SIL and why is SIL important?

How reliable is your device? What is SIL and why is SIL important?

Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is a measure of safety system performance in terms of the probability of failure on demand. As the SIL increases, the safety level of the product increases, meaning the probability that the system will fail to perform properly decreases. Often used in the processing industry, SIL provides intricate safety regulations to ensure the avoidance of catastrophic accidents and errors that can be detrimental to the most stringent operations.

Phoenix Contact’s QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20/+ (2904617) power supply has been certified for safety applications in accordance to IEC 60950-1 and IEC 61010-1 and multiple EMC standards including EN61000-6-7. The power supply guarantees superior system availability with an integrated decoupling MOSFET and an overvoltage protection circuitry featuring a safe shut off upon activation. With a protective conformal coating and ATEX/IECEx approval in accordance with the standards IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-7, IEC 60079-11, and IEC 60079-15, the QUINT 20+ power supply can also be used in hazardous locations.

In the event of a failure in the regulation circuitry, the QUINT 20+ power supply’s internal OVP will acknowledge the rise in voltage and limit the voltage to 30 V DC. Unlike any other DIN rail power supply on the market, the QUINT4 20+ power supply’s internal OVP securely shuts off the output voltage upon activation. This eliminates a high voltage spike and repetitive voltage fluctuations on the DC bus. The QUINT4 20+ is designed with a redundant OVP for increased reliability.

SIL 3 power supply stand-alone application - 20 A

SIL 3 power supply stand-alone application - 20 A

The overvoltage protection circuitry implemented in the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20/+ power supply fulfills the requirement up to SIL 3 and can be used in applications up to SIL 3 according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

SIL 3 redundant power supply application - 20 A

SIL 3 redundant power supply application - 20 A

The overvoltage protection circuitry implemented in the QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/20/+ power supply fulfills the requirement up to SIL 3 and can be used in redundant applications (1+1 and N+1) up to SIL 3 according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.

The 1+1 redundant power system build up with path 1 and path 2 provides a symmetrical load sharing operation and increases the system availability. In the absence of path 1, path 2 will take over the output power and securely supply the load. In the absence of path 2, path 1 will take over the output power and securely supply the load. If both paths are missing, the output will be switched off and the power system will be in a safe state.
